Notes For Sunday, June 29, 2003

For some reason our software caused the deletion of the entire lengthy "Notes" entry for today (the entry was online from approxiamtely 7:30AM EST until 10:45AM when it disappeared). We are trying to retreive it. We apolologize for the inconvenience, and will republish the entry if possible.

In the meantime, there were several significant stories we noted today, including a balanced discussion of Bush's "Talented 20" college admissions program here, "Jeb!'s" playing hardball by threatening to "sacrifice patient care by denying open-heart surgery centers at four . . . hospitals", and Peter Deutsch calling out Penelas (it is about time); Deutsch "lashed out at Penelas late Saturday, questioning the mayor's loyalty as a Democrat in the wake of his controversial role in the 2000 presidential recount -- when many Democrats accused Penelas of failing to fight for Al Gore ballots to be counted. 'This is a guy who helped elect George W. Bush, who is trying to destroy Medicare and everything the Democratic Party stands for,' Deutsch said in a telephone interview."
