Candidate Graham Rethinks Health Care - "Graham, 66, said his experience gave him 'a renewed and personal' appreciation of the need for all people to have access to quality health care." See "Sen. Graham Rethinks Health Care System".
Affirmative Action OK For Legacies Only - "On Tuesday, for the first time in 25 years, the Supreme Court will hear arguments on the issue of race and academic opportunity. . . . the president and his brother, Florida's governor, will be named among those offering unsolicited and wrongheaded denunciation to one kind of affirmative action after living lives rewarded by another kind". See "Keep affirmative action a required college course".
In connection with the appeal, Florida's "governor submitted three news releases to the court, boasting of his One Florida Initiative, which eliminated affirmative action in university admissions and state contracts in 2000. He claims that One Florida has increased diversity. That's . . . not true." That's a nice way of saying that Bush is lying.
Florida GOP's "No-New-Taxes Mantra . . . Irresponsible and Shortsighted" - "Tallahassee's no-new-revenue mantra isn't sensible, nor is it fiscally conservative. It's irresponsible and shortsighted. In a tough year, sacrifices must be made. But the Legislature and governor must do more than rob Peter to pay Paul. They were elected to lead, and so they should." See "Robbing Peter to pay Paul".
Flag Wrapping - There was a hubub last year about 66 year old retired Marine George Andres' 12-foot flagpole violating his Jupiter homeowners asociation rules, and his being sued by the association to take it down. Seeing a golden opportunity to do what they do best, the GOP led "Legislature passed a law last year to help him and Gov. Jeb Bush came down to present him a flag, but all that may not be enough to save him from a mortgage foreclosure." Now, long after the GOP photo ops have ended, a judge has ruled that the homeowners association can foreclose on Andres' property top collect some $21,000 in legal fees he owes it in losing the case. No mention of the Florida GOP and erstwhile leader Bush this time around. See "Foreclosure looms as flight over flag drags on". 6:22 AM
