The Daytona Beach News Journal points out that we really don't care how well the Gov gets along with Byrd and/or King, just get the damn job done. "State leaders should put needs of residents first".
The Governor will make his State of the State speech today. Demonstrative of the Governor's complete absence of vision or creativity, is his "proposed economic stimulus package", to be spelled out in today's address, which will "likely include increased spending for tourism marketing". And, that's about it for economic stimulus. It makes one wonder if Bush really even has a clue? While tourism is an important piece of the economy - sales taxes and all that - it is also the reason the economy is depressed -- low wage jobs.
And, aren't Florida Dems simply right about this: "'We think our state is in trouble,' [Senate Democratic Leader Ron] Klein said Monday, accusing Republican Gov. Jeb Bush of squandering a $4 billion budget surplus in 1999 by handing out $6 billion in tax cuts to businesses and wealthy investors. But Bush is pushing ahead with another $600 million cut in investment taxes, despite recommending deep state budget cuts in medical care for the needy and a tuition plan for the middle class. He also plans to take money from trust funds set aside for the environment and transportation needs."
